Release date: 13 January 2015

Back cover blurb:
A plague is destroying the world's population. The 'Gets makes people forget. First it's the small things, like where you left your keys ... then the not-so-small things, like how to drive. And finally your body forgets how to live. But now an unknown substance with extraordinary power to heal has been discovered in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Nicknamed ambrosia, it might just be the miracle cure the world has been praying for. A research lab has been established eight miles below the sea's surface, but all contact with the team has been lost. Dr Luke Nelson's brother is down there and as desperation for a cure outweighs common sense, he agrees to descend through the lightless fathoms ... perhaps to face an evil blacker than anything he could have imagined.

So the Deep is quite unlike any novel I have ever read.

I have to confess, I was intrigued by the synopsis and thought, it's been a while since I read anything 'sea' based... so I'll give this one a go.

I almost wish I hadn't, though that would be extremely unfair to the author, because in this instance it's not his fault I didn't like the book, I think I just read into the synopsis what I wanted to - Horror.

And whilst I adore a good horror novel, I think this one might have been a little bit too extreme for me.
Maybe it was the under the sea thing?

Despite the synopsis, I'm not sure I was prepared for the plunge to the bottom of the ocean!

Or maybe I'm not cut out for horror that has a science-y edge to it?

Maybe I just like the good old fashioned serial killer type novel?

Either way, although I enjoyed the parts I didn't skip... personally I don't think the Deep was for me.

Unfortunately I don't generally enjoy science fiction, and I think there was a little bit too much of a lean towards it in this novel. Also, I think I was expecting more of the plot to focus on the 'gets rather than the crusade of Dr Luke Nelson.

That said it is extremely well written, and for horror fans who like their horror with an added pinch of salt water, they will adore it!

The Deep is available to buy now from Amazon online and all good book shops.
